VIP7802 poor video quality

I have 40 years in the IT industry including cabling, matrix systems and high end video distribution systems. I'm not new to this, but I'm definitely not happy.

I recently received my 3 new bell Android tv receivers. I'm less than impressed with the poor video quality. I have been working with high level bell techs and engineering but no solution yet.

These issues show themselves when you do a comparison of sources. The reds are so far off, it washess out the rest of the picture. Tried different tv's, different receivers problem follows bell device.

Bell old 4k while home pvr= great picture

Amazon 4k fire stick running Bell app= great pic

New bell box red many shades off the mark= bad picture

Next comparison use smart tv YouTube 4k feed of COSTA RICA

I got 3 separate comparison feeds.

Smart tv, bell hdr box and Amazon. Bell looked terrible.

Bell Tech solution to adjust tv setting "WRONG" I use multiple devices and not changing settings whenever I change inputs.

Anyway, the tv's used for this testing are 2022 models 75" Samsung Frame TV and 75" Samsung QN75QN90 tv both high end tv's

Using CP24 top right red surrounding the date as part of my comparisons

Anyone finding this, can explain it or resolve it.

I gave bell 30 days or this product will be returned.

Exactly. Before switching I thought the interface would look much like Bell Streamer, but in fact it’s just the 5662 interface plus a section for apps and Android-like layout for device settings.

In your case, the lack of quality is referring to the Dolby Vision can’t be turned off, right? Have you noticed any problem with the video resolution?

I have colors that are off (red) makes everything else look off.  Jittery video often when watching sports.  Disconnections were resolved when bell added a separate transmitter to the 4000 hub.  The picture quality next to my smart apps in the tv or Firestick app running  bell or comparing YouTube is considerably less bright,  clear or stable

Yes, the Dolby Vision HDR can't be turned off from the Bell box causing the colours and brightness/contrast on the screen to be unnatural looking. I don't have issues with the resolution, but I can definitely say the picture is worse on the Bell box than when I was with Rogers.

Yeah I can recall your focus is the colour tone. CP24 uploads really nice 1080P clips to yt, so there’s no way at the moment for the paid stream to beat on the PQ aspect, unless they upgrade to a 4K feed.

Hi,

New to this forum and new to Bell Adroid TV. I share all the observations above. I switched from Rogers Ignite TV today and the difference in picture quality is really disappointed. I have an LG OLED 4k tv and the colour (particularly red) is much poorer with Bell than Rogers and there are far more noticeable artifacts.

I’m watching the Tournament of Hearts curling on TSN1 and the picture just looks “muddy” when compared with Rogers.

The boxes are both made by Arris, so I wonder if the Bell feed is poorer quality (more compressed?) than Rogers? Skin tones in close ups are awful with the Bell box but quite decent with Rogers on the same channel.

I moved to Bell because they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, but I have to say I’m very disappointed.

Can’t believe Bell even doesn’t treat their own sports channel good.

I have switched from the physical dvr and still haven’t noticed an improvement on picture quality yet. Although the PQ on the cloud dvr might change, if you search the legacy 4K box online, you’ll find the disk should be either 500G or 1TB, and the 320hr 1080P allowance still hasn’t change, so here it goes the bitrate. But you don’t need to be too upset, cause Telus uses the same box but could squeeze 400hr HD into the disk. They allow merely 100hr in 4K, while Bell allows 120hr, however there’s not much 4K content to record anyway.

This Dolby Vision bug from the Android Bell Fibe TV receiver also affected me with my LG OLED tv.
The picture quality from the Android Bell Fibe TV receiver is ugly.
It's like watching an old DIVX at 360p.
The tv dark scenes are just unwatchable.

The Android Bell Fibe TV receiver always shoot a very bad Dolby Vision signal to my TV.
No way to disable Dolby Vision from Bell Fibe Android TV receiver.

I plugued an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4k MAX with Fibe TV android app to the same LG OLED tv.
With Dolby Vision active, the picture quality is OK and no problem watching dark scenes.
When I disable Dolby Vision from Amazon Fire TV Stick 4k MAX menu, that just work as expected.
Dolby Vision become disabled and everything is fine too (picture quality and dark scenes ok).

I plugued the Android Bell Fibe TV receiver on my OLD Plasma TV (not Dolby Vision compatible).
Everythings is fine on it.

The Android Bell Five TV receiver is the only device with this kind of problem with my TV.

I also switched to Bell Fibe a week ago as they just dropped fiber in this year. Rogers pricing was outrageous but the picture quality absolutely crushes Bell. I'm really disappointed that these Android boxes produce such a garbage picture bad enough that I feel like I'm watching a stream from 2003.

Not sure what I can do based on all I've read here about the issue being the Bell hardware not the monitor or cabling.

Kinda regretting the move TBH.

I recently switched from Rogers but am finding that the colour is off on Bell? Too much contrast? The colours are all too dark and wash out fine details. Oranges and reds in particular are way too intense  It’s not my tv settings either, I have a higher end tv and have always kept it in movie mode to make it a more realistic looking image. It’s on all content, sports, tv shows, hd, 4k etc.

Welcome. https://forum.bell.ca/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?filter=location&q=HDR&location=category%3Abel...

Some of the threads mention both of the wash-out and tense colors.

What was the last you heard from engineering on this? I noticed the same picture quality issue immediately when I switched from Rogers last month. Such a disappointment

They sadly stopped responding.  Picture still  on bell Android boxes.

I use firesticks and returned these receivers

I gave up on these boxes a LONG time ago. Bought an Apple TV 4K and I use the Bell app. Very happy with the feed quality versus the android box. I’ll admit I have several picture enhancements turned on through my TV as well.

in all honesty, if you’re holding out or fighting for improvements, I think that boat has sailed.
