Can I turn off Wi-Fi broadcasting?

Is there a way to turn my wi-fi off on the modem besides just unplugging everything. Thank you.

I've notified the CEO's office on this, Bell lied to it's clients, you cannot turn off wifi, this is a dual use technology, time to take the pink glasses off and realize the router+voip configuration, is intentional, and if you check the HUGE number of broadcast channels and know anything about Wban, EEEI 802.1 standards and Mesh networks you will realize that you, and your galvanic energy, are a configured node in a ubiquitous network...without your permission.

I've had it just over a year.

Hi there @schultzter
We wanted to check in to see if you're still experiencing this issue with the devices showing they are connected?
Looking forward to hearing back.

You may be seeing local devices which are visible but can’t connect without your password. I have seen these id’s for years. They can generally be ignored.

Good afternoon

I accidentally unplugged my HH3k the other day and those mystery free-loading devices disappeared. I'll let you know if they ever show up again.

Annoyingly though when the router rebooted the wi-fi was activated again - it's a good thing I thought to check and turned it off right-away! Why do some settings persist through a reboot and others, like the wi-fi, don't?

Thank you for your question . The modem default is to always turn wi-fi on. You must shut it off manually if you want it off. You can safely ignore any devices which are not logged in.

The internet glitched last night around 12:30am, it just disappeared for a a couple minutes and then it was back to normal. But when it came back I checked my HH3k and the wi-fi was still turned off but those mystery free-loaders were back on my network!!!

I wish I had been more awake to do more debugging but it was total coincidence that I happened to be woken up and check my phone to see the time exactly at the moment this happened. I grabbed a screen shot of the connected devices but none of the disconnected devices (there was one) or of the wi-fi state (turned off).

It really concerns me that there's unknown devices connecting to my network on a wi-fi that's supposedly turned off! Since I proactively turned off the wi-fi does that mean Bell is responsible for the activity of these devices if Bell's modem is still allowing them to connect?

A few things. Even with Wi-Fi shut off, there are still hidden Wi-Fi channels that are still active. Second, just because a device is listed as being available to your network, does not mean it is connected to your network. For that they would need your password, which the device does not have. Finally, Bell has no liability for anything. The modem is not connecting to any devices unless it has the correct password. And keeping your password secure is your responsibility, not Bell's.

Wouldn't that be nice?  I would like the Bell app to have a "kill" switch to turn off internet altogether (from the CO), until we choose to turn it back on.  That would be real power.

Except that both kids and devices are smarter these days and they know that they can change their MAC address and circumvent this blocking technique.

A much better technique would be to allow either/or blocking by hostname and MAC, or blocking if a device is not on a whitelist, where a device is identified by name, IP and MAC.

Spoofing all 3 at once requires some serious planning, which not all kids are willing to do.

How do I stopbroadcasting my wifi name or turn it off entirely and only use a Lan cae on my modem

Thank you for your questions. Your SSID is always broadcast. I am not clear on what else you are asking. Can you clarify?

I dont need a ai mean you can hide my wireless network.  I only use a Lan connection, so my modem is broadcasting a wireless network for everyone to see.  I was hacked and while back so I don't want to broadcast my SSID.  I want to either want my network name to be hidden, or turn off the wifi network completely

Thank you for the clarification. If you only use your LAN connection or a "wired" connection, you can log into to your modem dashboard by using your browser and

  1. Clicking on http://192.168.2.1/ .
  2. Then enter the password found on the back of your modem, if you have not changed it.
  3. Click on the "Manage my WiFi" tile.
  4. Turn off "Whole Home WiFi".
  5. Click on Save.
  6. Acknowledge the warning if one appears.
  7. Log of and log in to your modem.

The Giga Hub has several hidden WiFi channels which can not be turned off. This is for Fibe TV.

It is extremely unusual for WiFi to be hacked. Current encryption protocols are sufficient for consumer use. You can use the PPPoE pass through ability of the Giga Hub to install your own router behind the Giga Hub (use the 10Gb port for best speed) if you wish.
