HH4000 + NAS on 10Gbe port

I have a HH4000 and want to purchase a NAS (Synology or QNAP). If I have a NAS with a 10Gbe port or 2.5Gbe port, can I connect that NAS to the 10Gbe port on the HH4000 and use it to get faster transfer speed to the NAS than if I had the NAS connected to just 1 LAN port on the HH4000?  Assume I have 4 computers attached to the router LAN ports all writing or reading to NAS at same time.

Thanks.

Thnks @ZaneP, I'm halfway there. Synology NAS can be seen and accessed however not from outside my network which is a bummer since it's my personal cloud. On the other hand my ix2-200's ip is available but can't be accessed. So more fun ahead.

Hi @lePyt

Glad to hear things are going in the right direction.. Let us know how you solved the internal access problem for the Synology NAS, and what the issue is for the other one.

Re external access, you have some options.

Synology itself has QuickConnect, with the tutorial here:https://kb.synology.com/en-us/DSM/tutorial/Quick_Start_External_Access.

You could set up port forwarding, which can be a little bit hit-or-miss when using the HH4000 but it's straightforward.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

Time for an update.

> NAS 1 : DS920+ : All clear now. I've resolved the access issue which was caused by a double NAT conflict (explaining below).

> NAS 2: IX2-200 : Still not accessible but I'll tackle that a bit later.

Why double NAT? Well like a psychopath, I've decided to go Omada SDN at the same time, so everything is now behind an ER605 router with a TL SG2108 POE Switch and a software controller hosted on the DS920+ with an EAP670 as access point. All very unnecessary for my 3 story house but oh well 😅

Thanks again @ZaneP. For the help!

Cheers!

@ZaneP forgot to mention. A simple port forwarding resolved the double NAT issue there are plenty of results to guide through it on Google search (in case a newb reads this).

Good catch on the double NAT.  The Omada SDN is perhaps a little overkill for residential lol. but it's pretty cool.

Good to hear that your Synology NAS is now accessible from the WAN! Nice work.

Glad I could help a little.

Cheers,

I’m having the same issue with my Synology DS918+ after switching to Fibe yesterday and the Gigahub. I can see it internally, but the NAS cannot access the internet. This means it can’t even update itself. I use this to share files for work so it’s kind of a show stopper for me. Has anyone resolved the issue of getting it accessible outside the network or does Bell block this for some reason?

Have you tried port forwarding yet?

Here's a comprehensive post which helped me fix it once and for all. Good luck and please report back..

Hello,

Bell recently replaced my Home Hub 2000 modem with a refurbished Home Hub 3000. I now considering adding a 4 bay NAS (Synology DS920+ or Asustor AS-604T). I currently have a D-Link Unmanaged Switch connected to the LAN1 port that I connect 2 desktops to. My questions are

1) Can I connect the NAS to this switch?

2) Or should I connect the NAS to one of the other 3 LAN ports on the Home Hub 3000?

and

3) Are there any issues running a NAS off the Home Hub 3000?

Any help or suggestion are appreciated. This is NAS is too replace a collect of USB drives that are moved from one computer to another for backup. I am planning on running RAID 5 with 4 disks likely 8TB each.

Thanks

Hi @e2mc2

The Synology DS920+ connects at a maximum 1Gb over ethernet. So you could attach it to a LAN port on the HH3K, or attach it to an unmanaged switch.

I have a Synology NAS and there are no issues with the connection to my HH 4000 modem. It's like any other ethernet-connected device.

Cheers,

@Zane P
