New gigahub - Google Home cannot connect to speakers

A family member was upgraded to Bell Fibe and got a new Giga Hub.

None of their Google speakers worked. I factory reset one and tried to add it. The network can see it but can't connect it in the final step. The Google Home app told me to disable AP isolation on the modem. I couldn't find it in the model settings. I did disable Manage Entire Home but that didn't change anything. Has anyone else encountered this?

Yes, but it was almost a year ago, so I forget exactly what I did. I believe the key was disabling 'let bell optimize wifi throughout your home'. I then had to factory reset all the devices but I believe they were able to connect at 2.4 GHz after that.

Check out these other threads for the steps:

I was able to check the settings on this modem today. Here's what stood out:

- Whole home Wi-Fi is turned off
- No guest network
- Wi-Fi is split into 3 bands, 2.4GHz was named differently (because of this, I did not unsplit them afterwards)
- I connected to the 2.4 network when I setup the google devices (Home and Mini)

Hope this helps!

Had the same issue today after setting up wifi for the first time. Confirming that what worked for me was:

  1. Manage My Wifi > turn off "Whole Home Wi-Fi" (not sure if this is necessary but I did it)
  2. Manage My Wifi > Guest WiFi Network > turn off guest wifi (not sure if this is necessary but I did it)
  3. Manage My Wifi > Primary Wifi Network > Advanced Settings > Uncheck "Keep a common network name (SSID) and password across all bands (recommended)" and rename individual wifi networks to indicate which GHz they refer to
  4. Restart Modem and reconnect my phone (which I was using to set up the Google speakers) to the 2.4 GHz wifi
  5. Reset all Google speakers and go through setup again

Hi there @Chase33. Thanks for your post and welcome to the Bell Community 🙂

Can you share the make/model of the speakers?

A great first step would be to reboot all of the speakers & uninstall/re-install the Google Home App to see if that makes any difference.

If you continue to experience trouble we also recommend checking out this Google article Can't connect to speaker or display's hotspot in the Google Home appOpens in a new tab or window

Let the Community know how everything goes.

I'm having the same issue with new google devices on the network.  It asks to disable AP isolation on the modem, but I can't seem to find that setting. Any recommendations?

Hi there @Alex-W,

Thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community.

Are you using a third party router? If that is the case you should find the AP Isolation setting in the advanced wireless settings on that device.

Keep the Community posted on how everything is going with your set up.

Hi there,

I am experiencing the exact same issue.  Upgraded and have the Bell Gigahub router.  Cannot connect any of my Google devices to it (Google Nest Mini) as I get an error that says the following:

"Connect to same Wi-Fi: Your Nest Mini was setup successfully but can't be found. Make sure your mobile device and Nest Mini are on the same Wi-Fi network.  Turn off AP isolation: If AP isolation is enabled on your Wi-Fi router, you will need to disable it."

Both my Nest Mini and my phone are on the same wifi network. I cannot find a way to disable "AP Isolation" in the router settings. We have called Bell and no one seems to know what we're talking about.

Would really appreciate some help as we currently cannot use our Google devices with our new internet.

Thank you,

Katherine

Same issue as all above. Would be really nice to see this resolved for all once and for all

I will be visiting during the holidays and will check the settings and provide further info if I can confirm the changes I made.

After about 5 hours of trying, changing all the settings with Bell on the line and then changing them all back when that was no help, magically one last attempt and my chromecast was live... 2 more attempts and my google home. So frustrating and confusing but at least they're both working now.

100%. I've read several threads where no one answers this question just the same runaround.

My parents just had a Bell Giga router installed and now the Google speakers won't connect. The final step in the setup process is "Disable AP Isolation on your router".

How Bell? Yes I have reset, reinstalled, tethered, unplugged, moved etc.

Hoping to have an actual answer on this someday soon.

I have tried literally everything possible in order to "disable AP isolation".  I've even gone in to every advanced router setting and nothing gives me that option or anything similar.  Bell still hasn't even responded in this forum and we've also called multiple times and visited a physical store and no one seems to even understand our issue.

Unfortunately we ended up switching from Bell entirely since we could never get any help! Can't say we didn't try!

My only suggestion at this point is to switch providers as we have the same if not faster internet now and not a single issue connecting our Google homes/hubs!!

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas/holiday season and fingers crossed you get some answers about this issue!

I found this tidbit on a google forum.

The default Wi-Fi network configuration prevents devices from communicating with each other. In order to resolve this issue, you need to disable Access Point (AP) isolation, also known as "Client Isolation" or "Guest Mode," on your router. So, if you can find the guest mode setting and disable it, that might fix the issue.

Hi @Chase33,

Thank you for your reply.

Can you please confirm which troubleshooting suggestions you were able to try from the link that we posted above?
