Upgraded from a Home Hub 2000 to Home Hub 3000

I just upgraded to a 3000 from a 2000 as we were getting internet lagging in the basement for my sons computer gaming - but we don’t have fibe tv which I believe the 3000 is designed for - will the 3000 still work for us without fibe tv and give us better faster internet speed?

The 3000 is an upgrade over the 2000, and for gaming computers I would recommend a wired connection over a WiFi connection, to reduce WiFi induced lag.

Slide #2 of this guide explains what a wired (ethernet) connection is, and how to establish one on the home hub 3000.

I recommend that over a WiFi (wireless) connection for gaming, although with good signal strength a wireless connection will likely suffice.

Thank you very much - I am a bit of a tech moron (ok actually I am a big tech moron) - what do you mean by wired connection- he won’t be plugged into the modem but he does plug into a pod - the modem and his computer are on different floors?

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

The Home HUB 3000 is a gateway modem. It's a combination modem & router. It is used for Fibe TV, Internet, Home Phone.

Which Fibe Internet package do you have? If you think your Internet speed is letting you down, go to:  bell.ca/speedtest on your computer or gaming console and run the speed test. You may need to change your Fibe internet package.

Your best connection to your sons computer will always be a wired ethernet connection from the Home Hub, if possible. A wired connection is best for online gaming and helps reduce lag and latency.

If you can’t use a wired connection, think about extending your Wi-Fi range with Bell Wi-Fi pods.

If you are using multiple devices at once, this can also affect your bandwidth & speed. Close any apps, games or devices that you are not using.

Take care.
