VIP7802 always has Dolby Vision on.

I just had Bell Fibe 1Gb internet and Fibe Tv with the new 4K Cloud PVR installed.

I notice when you boot or reboot the Fibe box, the Dolby Vision icon will display on my LG OLED tv. If I check the video display info on my Denon receiver it indicates it is receiving a Dolby Vision signal from the Fibe Tv box. This is for every channel and causes the picture to look very contrasty due to Dolby Vision being on all the time.

I can't find a setting to turn of or control HDR settings. I have an Nividia Shield 2019 model and there are options on it to disable HDR settings. This doesn't happen when I use the Fibe TV app on the Shield.

Please advise as this will potentially over time damage an OLED tv with burn in.

Thanks.

Use the HDMI 1.3 for bell five receiver. Not 1.4 or 2.0. Problem fixed

Sometime i have been able to get rid Dolby Vision on Lg tv but it randomly gets back and looks a bit better at most. I also got the Apple 4k tv stick for then bell fibe app but it doesn't look a lot better, the only options are hdr sdr and dobly vision. So still not great.

Going through the soundbar it works to "turn off" HDR, but now I'm having sound issues. Catch-22. Anyway, I'm done with Bell.

Hi there @PhilgmThank you for your post and welcome to the Community.

Are you able to share what the sound issues you're experiencing are? Is your receiver connected via WiFi or ethernet connection and have you tested both connection types?

Looking forward to hearing back.

Has this issue been corrected?? It’s now 2024 and I have the same problem??

thank u

Any update for this issue? Just switched to Bell and the Fibe TV box is forcing Dolby Vision on every channel with no option to turn it off. This is unacceptable in my opinion.

Hello, it used to be  ok for me (no DolbyVision forced) before update in November 2024 but now Dolby Vision is forced anytime. Solution I found : connect your Bell Box directly to your TV with a hdmi cable older (not the one with the box) . Set up your tv input to standard (not enhanced signal) for this specific HDMI input.  Use eARC to send audio signal to your AVR or soundbar. It works, no more Dolby Vision. I know that I won’t be able to watch 4K content but I use a different source for Netflix or Apple TV and let’s be honest, there is not much content in 4K. I also tried different method trhough my AVR to set the belle HDMI to 1.4 but it as still with Dolby vision forced, I don’t know why.
but Bell , it’s a pity. We should be able to remove DolbyVision directly on the box settings like every other android box.
sorry for my English 😉

Wow, I’ve been with Bell for 11 years. All that time, I had a good old physical HD recorder, with movies dating back around 8-9 years on it. It was showing signs of wearing, and the price of my services were too high, so I went to Videotron. I hated Helix, since it crashed multiple times a week, so a month later, I came back to Bell, knowing I would be happy with the quality.

My services were installed today, and the technician came along with this little VIP7802 box and boy oh boy, what a terrible mistake it was! I never experienced such a bad quality on a television for the last 20 years! It is impossible to disable Dolby Vision and I can’t believe how bad everything looks… forget watching sports. All other channels looks 720p, or lower. This is a disgrace. To come here and realize it has been an issue for more than 2 years is utterly disappointing.

It looks like most of the complaints come from LG owners like me. Fibe tv is not even available on LG tvs. I’m waiting for a Fire Tv stick to see if it helps a little, but I can guarantee you, Bell, that I won’t accept this « 1990’s era picture quality » for a very long time, whatever the price.

I don’t have words to describe how disappointed I am with this cheaper-than-cheap tv box that we have to use.

I just had a Bravia 9 TV installed today.  I'm pulling my hair out to figure out how I can get Picture setting other than Dolby Vision.  I'm gobsmacked that it appears the issue is related to the VP7802 and the new Android/Google TV interface.

I'll keep searching and probably call Bell Tech support eventually.  Never had the problem with our old LG OLED tv that was 8 years old, but such is it.

After a boatload of trial and error I stumbled on settings within the Bravia 9 OS (Android/Google TV) that was forcing the VP7802 to Dolby Vision only.  In the Bravia TV settings noted below I set the HDMI signal formats for the HDMI the VP7802 was connected to the TV to Standard format.  Voila, the Bravia now allowed all of Sony’s picture modes.  Ironically Dolby Vision was not one of them.

Quick Settings) button on the remote control, then select [Settings] — [Channels & Inputs] — [External inputs] — [HDMI signal format] — the HDMI input you want to set.
Follow the on-screen instructions and set the HDMI signal format for the HDMI input terminal to a suitable format below. Available HDMI signal formats depend on your model and the HDMI input.

  • Standard format
  • Enhanced format

Note:  HDMI input from the VP7802 was originally set to Enhanced format and the only Picture format allowed was Dolby Vision.

I had tested the Sony TV with the FibeTV app installed on the Bravia.  I  was able to get the various picture options, so I knew it should be possible.  In this situation I was using the internet connection (Ethernet) to the Bravia.  When using the VP7802 I was connected to the TV via and HDMI connection.

Not sure if those with other TVs have setting options for HDMI inputs.  If the TB’s OS does, this may be a place to look for a solution.

I’m not sure why an Enhanced Format for an external input should be limited to Dolby Vision.  Doesn’t make sense to me.

I also spent quite some time to figure it out, because I’m a maniac when it comes to picture quality and I couldn’t stand this nonsense. It turns out the solution really is very counterintuitive. The solution is basically the same as GolferWayne with my LG C1 Oled, so let’s spread the good news to help as many people as possible.

Using my tv’s remote, I went into All settings, then General, then Devices, then HDMI settings, then HDMI Deep Color.

It was automatically set to 4K, which only allowed Dolby Vision (why…?). I set it up to Off, which disabled Dolby Vision and allowed me to use all my beloved picture settings like before.

Since this setting only applies to this specific HDMI ports, problem solved and whatever else you may have connected through another HDMI port will not be affected by this.

Now, why this VP7802 box forces Dolby Vision by default and nobody from Bell was able to help people with this in the last two years is another matter.

Hello I am also having this issue with Dolby vision always on. Can anyone help here as the picture looks horrible

Hey there @Gerryr8

Welcome to the Bell Community.

Check out this postOpens in a new tab or window for some helpful tips and let us know how everything is going.

@BellPatricia

You can not turn off Dolby vision or hdr on the tv. The tv only reads what the streaming box is telling it to put out. So if the bell box had an option to disable Dolby vision then the tv would only read hdr. This is not cool I’m at the point where I think I’m going to switch to rogers.
