Voice Commands and Remote Not Working

My Bell remote with voice commands does not work AT ALL! I have the newest model of streamer box and remote.

I received a new box and remote to try and fix the problem..and still no luck.  I am brand new to Bell, from Rogers, and I am very disappointed.  Their voice remote works flawlessly.

No matter what I say...there is no response.  Occasionally, if I stand right next to the box (inches away) it might pick up a word.

Am I the only one having this problem?  My technician told me that all the boxes do not work.  Is this true? Very upsetting.

Good Day & Welcome to the Bell Community Forum.

Thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community.

Are you having trouble with any other of the remote functions (such as controlling the volume or changing channels)? Any error codes?

What color LED light do you see at the top of the remote when you press a button (green, red or nothing)?
Have you tried rebooting your receiver?

To troubleshoot you can start by replacing the batteries.

Connecting your Google account and Fibe TV : Why link Google with your Fibe TV Box?

If you are still having trouble after that you can also try resetting your remote control to factory settings. Note: the remote will no longer control the TV and audio devices you have programmed so you would need to reprogram them.

Here are the steps to reset your remote:

  • Select Settings from the home screen.
  • Scroll down to the Support section and select Remote Settings.
  • Select Reset. *Now that the remote has been reset to factory settings, the next steps will guide you through programming the remote using the appropriate code.

I came to the same conclusion as @tomtom15 after moving the Bell Arris VIP7802 (Android TV) set-top box in another room with different TV and sound system brands: Interference with other equipments is the only possible explanation for these weird remote control issues:

  • Voice command not working
  • Cannot type-in numbers correctly on the remote -- numbers are either not registering, or they are registering double or triple
  • Navigating the guide is very difficult, almost impossible at times: navigation gets stuck and pages scrolls randomly.

I noticed a small improvement when I moved the box further away from the subwoofer, but remote lag was still unacceptable to me.

In summary:

Bell Arris VIP7802 (Android TV) voice remote control not working correctly around these devices (my experience):

  • Samsung TV
  • Sony sound bar
  • PS5

Bell Arris VIP7802 (Android TV) voice remote control working correctly around these devices (my experience):

  • Sony TV
  • Denon sound system
  • PS4
  • Xbox One

Wondering if other people experiencing voice remote issues have similar equipment around their Bell set-top box ?

@4nier   I was able to fix the issue by doing a factory reset.

I am about to try the factory reset, I have the same issue with my voice remote.

@Aptic : Quick question- Have you lost your recordings when you have done the factory reset? Thanks!

Good Day.

The VIP 7802 box stores it's recordings on the Cloud PVR. These will not be lost unless you choose to delete them, or the storage time & capacity storage space limits have reached their maximum.

If you have a VIP 5662W HD PVR & it is replaced or is Factory reset, all of your recordings are permanently lost.

FYI Only!

Fibe TV has evolved into a cloud-based storage system for all your recordings. It lets you store up to 320 hours of recordings for up to 60 days. Cloud PVR is a virtual addition to your physical Fibe TV receiver. You’ll get a reminder 15 days before a recording expires. Once you reach 320 hours, your recordings will start to be deleted, beginning with the oldest.

Take care.

Say the name of the show you want to watch. With Rogers voice control, you will be taken to the show. With Bell, you will be give a choice of YouTube options. Or it will completely misunderstand what you are asking for. It will never just take you to the TV show. This is a totally useless service. I am going back to Rogers.
