VIP5662 does not retain 4K resolution settings

All channels on my new Samsung TV look way better when Bell's 4k PVR resolution is set to 4K, every time you turn the TV off and back on the PVR resolution drops to 1080 which forces me to manually adjust back to 4K (select Menu , Settings, Resolution and select 4K) , this is quite annoying as it has to be done every time you turn the TV on, I called Bell, they sent a technician who swapped the PVR but the problems continues , called Bell again to be told that the boxes are programmed to default to 1080 resolution , is there an solution and/or logical explanation for this, the boxes should retain the resolution they are set at , this is not right ?

I also have the QN90B. It used to change to SD, every time, but now it changes to 1080p, unless there has been a power outage. Then it will boot up in SD mode. Has anyone called to complain?

I wouldn’t count on this being fixed, period.

The Bell Executive resolutions team have now confirmed that there is still no fix. They were not able to give an anticipated time either!
This is totally unactable as I "upgraded" to the 4K end of last year when i bought 4K TV
They also wont budge on the new Android system (which apparently also seems to have problems??)

I had Bell send me a new receiver.  This one looked new (unlike the one it replaced).  But as expected, this has the same problem as the old one... when turned on it usually has 1080p resolution... occasionally it does retain the 4K setting and just as occasionally it starts up at SD... It's pointless to deal with their support, as it looks lie they are in denial.  The issue here seems to be an incompatibility with my TV.  The receiver does not recognize My TV (which has 120 refresh rate) as a 4K.  Every time I turn the box on, I check the resolution, and change it to 4k (60 refresh rate as that's all the box does).  Can the boxes firmware be updated?  Is bell looking to resolve this?  I think the front line support people do not see this as a problem, and simply suggest swapping out the box... They seem to be in denial that this is a real issue.

Read my post a few pages back. The box is a legacy box and will not got any further fixes or updates so the issues will continue.

Move on to the 7 series box and save yourself the headaches.

Rogers has offered me a great deal to move to ignite 1.5 and more tv channels (at less $ than what I was paying bell for 50mb). The install is scheduled for this weekend…

it’s really a shame and quite disappointing how Bell has been treating a loyal customer for the last 15+ years…

I’m battle weary having switched back and forth for 40 years. Problem here is that the Rogers infrastructure in this area is rubbish. The whole neighborhood is crisscrossed with a series of clotheslines and it’s been that way over a year now. It was that bad infrastructure that drove me to Bell. Having said that, I’m more than a little annoyed with having to reset the resolution SEVERAL times a week.

The issue at your address is completely different. Even the box switch its display to 480P/i won't give you pixelated and snowy images.

That seems to be the logical answer. When Bell can’t figure something out, they declare it legacy.

How much will the 7 series cost me. We have to know, that Bell never does anything for free.

You can cancel the current bundle and order a new one. I’m in Quebec and the plan with 7802 box bundled with Internet is merely $30/mo in total with a la carte 5. (Bell allows almost unrestricted modifications on lineups and bills are prorated for most channels including the every alc channel, so actually $30 gives me nearly 200 channels.)

My pvr has finally gone off the deep end. From having to change the resolution from sd to 4k several times a week I now have to change it a few times a day especially if the pvr has gone into what I refer to “sleep” mode. I’m really disappointed with Bell. Obviously they don’t care that I spend 250 a month and increasing all the time.

I was about to say the same thing. Every day for the last 10 days, I had to change the resolution, but then today, it was fine. What is it, that is telling the STB to change resolution? The source has to be the TV. Has anyone tried using a different HDMI port?

Well, in mid October, I received an exchange for the same model of PVR. It did the same thing a week later.  I called Bell to advise that the issue continues.  The tech asked if he could try one last thing, and sent an upgrade. It had only changed the resolution one time since then. Call Bell and ask them to apply the latest firmware upgrade.

My problem is solved.  My old 4K PVR was failing... it wouldn't record, so they were going to send n=me a new one.  I asked for the upgrade to the new one (it's Google TV).  This works great.  They had to replace my other (not 4K) box too.  Recordings are now in the cloud.  There are a few things I liked better with the old box (like full page scrolling on the guide) but overall a better box.  And, it works great with apps like Netflix...  And it's easy to add apps.  The box is also has a much smaller footprint.  And no resolution issues.  So big improvement.  The tech who came blamed my HDMI cable for the resolution issue as I had upgraded from the one they provided, I tried several cables and that never changed anything.  Hopefully they will soon roll this out to everyone with the resolution problem... The old box is just fine if it would work with my 4K TV... I asked about firmware updates, but I they said it was up to date.  My theory on the problem is that all the inputs on my Samsung are 120, where the old Box only went up to 60.  And, when it connected it did not always recognize that the TV was 4K and set the resolution lower.
