Pre-authorized payment delay and bill cycles

I set up automatic bell payment through Tangerine and it says on MyBell that I am late paying it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AI Summary:

When you set up pre-authorized payments, the withdrawal of funds from your bank account or credit card does not happen immediately on the next bill's due date.  It's important to note that it can take one full billing cycle for pre-authorized payments to become active after you first enroll. For this reason, it is recommended to make a manual payment for your first bill after setting up pre-authorized payments to avoid any late fees.

You can review your billing and payment history, including your bill date, due date and any upcoming pre-authorized payment dates, by logging into MyBell.

Key Factors Influencing Pre-Authorized Payment Timing

Billing Cycle: Your bill is issued on the same date each month, and this date is typically determined by when services were first activated. Bell services are billed one month in advance and payment processing times are determined by the type of pre-authorized payment chosen.

Payment Method Processing Time:

  • Pre-authorized debit: Withdrawals from a bank account can take up to 18 calendar days to be processed after your bill date.
  • Pre-authorized credit card: Payments made with a credit card are typically processed within 7 business days after your bill date.

Hi there @Dave. Thanks for your post, and welcome to the Bell Community.

Can you share when you set up your pre authorized debit payment with your bank? When setting up pre authorized debit/credit card payments it takes one full billing cycle for the registration to be completed.

Did you set up your pre-authorized payment prior to your overdue notification invoice? ( I assume you mean you received your bill in the mail.)

If that is the case, if you check on line in MyBell, your account will be credited the amount of the pre-authorized payment. (I am assuming you set up your account on MyBell using One bill as your payment tool.)

Depending on the timing of your overdue bill & your pre-authorized payment, you may may have an outstanding balance for late payment charges.

I setup my preauthorized payments.  I spoke to an employee who confirmed it was setup and still I have an overdue invoice.  Why is Bell invoicing not synced to pre-authorized payments?

I have a new account, the bill still shows unpaid yet Bell has my cc

why isn’t it paid?

The Bill? Could you please explain? Are you talking about a paper bill that you received in the mail or are you talking about your eBill  that is showing on your MyBell account?

How did you pay your bill? Bell does not just pay your bill with your credit card. Did you set up Pre-authorized bill payment on MyBell? Did you set up One bill? If so, then you will see an outstanding charge on the One bill section of MyBell with a payment date. If you setup Pre-authorized bill payment on MyBell, then the funds will be withdrawn from the financial institution or credit card company on this date. If you made a One time payment on MyBell using either your financial institution or credit card,  then it will not show up on MyBell until it clears the bank or credit card company and is forwarded to Bell.

The MyBell site updates bill payments daily after they are received from the bank or credit card company. This time can vary from 1-4 business days after the payment date. This time frame can be longer depending on the time of day the payment is made with the financial institution, weekends, holidays, & if there any system outages.

An easier and more thorough method for you would be to setup Pre-authorized payments on MyBell. You can setup credit card or payments via your financial institution. It is simple, accurate & will best meet your needs!

Please provide further details. How did you set it up? Timing? Before you received your bill, on the due date, after the due date? Bills must be processed by the financial institution or credit card company & then forwarded on to Bell for processing. This can take upwards of 2-5 business days. Once Bell receives the funds, your account is credited the payment.

Your best & easiest method of payment is to set up Pre-authorized payments in MyBell.

I have setup the Pre Authorization Debit and it should have been deducted the amount from my account and the due date is passed. So when will the amount will be charged? And how many days it take to reflect on the bell account.

Hello,

I’ve received my first bill last Tuesday and I setup on the same day pre-authorized payments. To-date I don’t see the amount have been withdrawn from my bank. Does this mean I have to pay the first bill manually until pre authorized payment is setup?

thank you.

Based on the information you have provided, your pre-authorized payment if it was set up on the same day you received your bill, then you should meet this months billing due date. Your bill payment is due within 30 days of your billing date. You will notice a billing date on your first bill.

The MyBell site updates bill payments daily after they are received from the bank. This time can vary from 1-4 business days after the payment date. This time frame can be longer depending on the time of day the payment is made with the financial institution, weekends, holidays, & if there any system outages. When Bell receives these funds, your account is credited.

You will be able to see when it is processed & your account is credited with the payment on MyBell.

I have included the following web chart to assist you.

The processing time that I mention below is approximate. It is not unique to just Bell bills. For example:

  • Pre-authorized debit: Every month, up to 18 calendar days after the bill date
  • Pre-authorized credit card: Every month, up to 7 business days after the bill date
  • Etc.

The processing time is always dependant on the payment method you use.

Hopefully I have been able to answer your question.

Take care.

Thank you for your very well detailed response, sadly it is a tad  complicated for me to understand. Here’s the dates based on my first bill, my question remains, do I have to pay manually the first bill or it’ll be taken care with the bank pre-authorized payments.

  1. Bill date: Dec 2, 2023
  2. Email received : Dec 5
  3. Setup bank pre-authorized payment: Dec 5
  4. Please pay by: Dec 18

You mention above that bill payment is due 30d from bill date but the bill itself as well the bell account says to pay by Dec 18 ?!? But if I follow correctly, Bell will process my account bank pre-authorized payment type on or around Dec 20 (Dec 2 + 18d) and payment will be made 1 to 4 days later: so the latest Dec 24?

thank you.

According to a bell agent I just spoke with, given the bill was generated before the pre-authorized payment was setup, a manual payment is required for the first bill. All subsequent bill payments will be withdrawn from the bank account.

Thank you for the specific detail in your reply. The agent is correct. You will need to make a payment. There are not enough days for a Pre-authorized debit payment to go through on your initial set up & first bill. This can take up to 18 days for your Pre-authorized debit payment to be processed.

Note: If by chance, the Pre-authorized payment did go through in time, and it was applied to your account, you would be credited for both payments & your following bill would reflect the overpayment & the credit would be applied to the account. You would also see a CR $ amount on your MyBell.

Thank you for this information.

Take care...
