All channels on my new Samsung TV look way better when Bell's 4k PVR resolution is set to 4K, every time you turn the TV off and back on the PVR resolution drops to 1080 which forces me to manually adjust back to 4K (select Menu , Settings, Resolution and select 4K) , this is quite annoying as it has to be done every time you turn the TV on, I called Bell, they sent a technician who swapped the PVR but the problems continues , called Bell again to be told that the boxes are programmed to default to 1080 resolution , is there an solution and/or logical explanation for this, the boxes should retain the resolution they are set at , this is not right ?

Lots to consider for sure. Thanks for your input. The biggest problem I’m going to have is telling my wife her rubbish Hallmark movies will be gone😂

I’ll keep reporting the performance of the new box here for those of you on the fence, I will note again that I am using Ethernet which may help with some of the issues people have reported with their audio and video feeds.

I think losing the content on the HDD is likely the thing that I thought about the most but I just made sure we watched anything that hadn’t been watched yet haha but yes telling the wife those precious movies will be gone is no easy task

- I’ve noticed that when I turn the tv on, it has usually defaulted to 1080p. If there has been a power outage, it defaults to 420, with the small box.
- So why would we lose the wonderful Hallmark movies if we upgrade? I haven’t mentioned it to my wife either yet.

Your current PVR (VIP5662W) is a hard drive based PVR which means all the recordings are stored locally on the PVC itself, the new VIP7802W is a cloud PVR system meaning all the recordings are stored on the cloud.
Switching means you will be parting ways with whatever was stored on the HDD of the current PVR.

Thank you for the explanation @tokyokiller . I thought that it had to do with a new channel lineup.
I did find it interesting though. We had scheduled some recordings the other week, when we had a 12 hour power outage. I thought they were gone, but the next day, sure enough, the recordings were there. That tells me, that all recordings are now on the cloud anyway. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Yeah I’ve discovered this probably since early last year. But you still have to turn the 5662 box on once in a while to keep all new & upcoming scheduled recordings

Up until 5 days ago I was occasionally having to reset my pvr from 480 to 1080. Now every time I turn the thing on it has reverted to 480. Not just occasionally 480, every single time. This situation has become intolerable and I’m beginning to think of options. Do better Bell!

It seems to do that to mine, only after a power reset, but then it defaults to 1080p. Maybe try to turn off intelligent mode on the tv for a couple of days?

I am getting sick of resetting the resolution every time the box turns on. Bell are sending me a new receiver. They would not give me the VIP7802W, as that is now only available to people on a trial basis, and I am not part of the trial. (I live in NL, but the receiver may be available in other regions). So the are sending me a new receiver, just like the one I have. I have very little hope that this will fix it. I expect the same. Hopefully this one will look better, the one I have arrived with big scratches across the front... maybe it's old and the newer models have the problem fixed (but I doubt it). I am surprised Bell is not taking this seriously and advising their front line workers of the issue. They still ask about the HDMI cable... I tried the one they sent me and a better quality one with the same result. It's likely some customers will go to the competition. Bell support should at least be aware of this issue and give a reasonable timeline for resolution... like when will the new receiver be available in my area?

Yup. As per my previous post my pvr is reverting back to 480 every it gets powered on. It’s obvious Bell has written this off. The pvr’s are obsolete pieces of junk!

Greetings: Any updates on your experiences with the new box? The reason I ask is that mine is reverting to 480 every time it’s turned on!
Thanks

I’ve tried a new hdmi cable, but I have not tried a new stb yet. The fear is, that every time I call Bell, they try to sell me something that will cost more money. They only thing that appeared to make a difference so far, is to turn off the intelligent mode on the tv, for a couple of days, then turn it back in. I have a feeling the Bell is just hoping that we will give up, and go away. This is affecting too many customers though.

I have a new PVR... it's same as the old one... looks better though as the old one was scratched up... I have to give up... I just set it every time I turn on the TV. The new box is consistent on 1080p... I did notice that when I do a reboot, it comes on as 4K... at least for the 2 or 3 times I tried it. I will ask that this get escalated.. hopefully new equipment will be available soon.
