Has anyone connected directly to their router with an SFP and PPPoE or another method? I'm looking for the right 10Gig SFP, but I'm not sure what one to get
I have a Ubiquitiy UDM SE gateway/router. Currently I have a 10 Gig SFP+ to RG45 with a patch between it and the HH4K's 10G RJ45 port. I'd like to eliminate the HH4K and go direct if possible.
thanks.

I am the originator of the article, if you go to my personal web site google jeff gardner cobourg bell giga hub it links to a PDF with all of the screen shots which were removed. That should provide you with what you are looking for. All the best. Jeff

I have that running in DMZ mode. I may find a way to get PPPoe working as well but for now DMZ is what I have. I wrote an article and posted it to my web site. Google Jeff Gardner Bell Giga Hub and you should find a PDF with all the in settings on the UDM along with Screen shots. Jeff

Just to be clear, the Community Forum guidelines don’t permit direct links off the page and/or to non-Bell products. Bell staff (names begin with Bell) keep those community guidelines. Listing search terms is fine. Images have to be approved by staff before posting.

I'm in Ontario and just setup my Cloud Gateway Fiber to use PPPOE. Been running great. Getting full speed too. 3/3.

Setup was simple really, just need your PPPOE login and the Cloud Gateway does all the work.

I wasn’t interested in how you set it up, rather that you bypassed the Giga Hub, unless you have an HH 3000 with a separate ONT, and plugged the fibre int the Cloud Gateway and it worked. With XGS-PON and the Giga Hub, the ONT is built in and plugging the fibre into another device should not work. Do you have a separate ONT?

The HH4k is plugged into my Cloud Gateway's 10Gb WAN port via ethernet cable. Did the initial setup on the Cloud Gateway to use PPPOE. That's it. Cloud Gateway Fiber is doing all the work.

Thank you for the clarification. Much appreciated.
In case anyone else is interested, the Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Fiber is sold out at the manufacturer's store but may be available from other suppliers.
In this particular application it appears you are using the passthrough function of the HH4000. If anyone is looking for the same function, a 10Gb unmanaged switch plugged into the 10 Gb port of the Giga Hub or HH4000 will do the same thing with a 10 Gb network card. I have a TrendNet TEG-S750 5 port unmanaged 10 Gb switch plugged into the 10Gb port on the Giga Hub that serves the same function.
Expect to spend something in the vicinity of $400-$500 for the Ubiquiti device or an unmanaged switch, unless you find them on sale on Cyber Monday or Boxing Day.
Thanks again.

Thanks everybody for the details. Is there anyway I could ask someone to just give a brief summary if this is something that can be set up now in a way where there is no NAT and there’s no compromises in speed. I’m still not 100% clear after reviewing all the replies over the last little while.

Can you provide more specifics about what you are seeking and which modem you have, as well as your speed tier? There are many variables.

It all depends on what you need. If you absolutely need an external IP, you will need to establish a PPPOE connection and have routing functionality in the attached device.
If you just want to expand the 3G connection to multiple devices, you can use a 10 G switch plugged into the 10G port of the HH4000 and in that case unmanaged would be easier as it's just plug and play.
There's no easy way to bridge the HH4000, so it will need the HH4000 regardless of your setup.
If you have a HH3000 you can completely bridge it, and then it will require a proper router with an SFP+ port that can sink at 2.5/2.5 so you can get the full 1.5/1 profile speed.
Mesh WiFi network you can opt for the Bell pods, or for an aftermarket option. If you are using a brand for switching and routing, I would stick with that brand and avoid mixing and matching. This is especially true for Ubiquiti products.
