VIP5662 does not retain 4K resolution settings

All channels on my new Samsung TV look way better when Bell's 4k PVR resolution is set to 4K, every time you turn the TV off and back on the PVR resolution drops to 1080 which forces me to manually adjust back to 4K (select Menu , Settings, Resolution and select 4K) , this is quite annoying as it has to be done every time you turn the TV on, I called Bell, they sent a technician who swapped the PVR but the problems continues , called Bell again to be told that the boxes are programmed to default to 1080 resolution , is there an solution and/or logical explanation for this, the boxes should retain the resolution they are set at , this is not right ?

After some back and forth will Bell my issue appears to have been resolved by a premium HDMI cable which is capable of 4k and 120Hz. Hope this helps!

So the Bell 4K receiver isn’t shipped with a 4K optimized HDMI cable? That’s laughable but not all that surprising I guess.

my theory is the Samsung home app on power up is sending a false reading to the auto detection of the receiver. I set the tv to resume on the last input setting rather than the Home Screen with the little preview box.

so far it’s been more reliable but will often reset to 1080p. At least I haven’t seen SD show up in a while.

I have a Samsung QN88B. My bell 4K receiver also does not retain the 4K resolution in settings and has to be forced into 4K each time the tv is turned on again. I have swapped a few receivers since the beginning of January and they all do the same. I subscribe to premium Netflix and I no longer get the 4K picture quality since the beginning of January. I have been told by a Bell manager something about the latest software of the tv may have a glitch but I have been forcing 4K on my receiver in settings since I got the tv in November. Samsung has told me the problem is with my service provider. It seems the two are blaming each other.

Hey there @abcd, thanks for your post and welcome to the Bell Community.

I wanted to check in with you to see if you had a chance to try out the fix @DarrenO posted above.

Yes I replaced the bell cable with a Rocket Fish 4K HDMI cable in December but I still have to change the resolution to 4K UHD from either 1080p or SD each time I turn on the tv. I’m beginning to think maybe my issue has more to do with the internet signal itself. I keep checking my speed and it’s always very high. Maybe there is some unknown interference in the bell line that is downgrading the picture quality.  I hope Bell is working on trying to resolve this.

I recently upgraded to the 4K whole home. Every time I switch it on, the resolution defaults to SD 4x8
And I need to manually change it back to 4K (highly annoying)PVR. Evrytime turn on the tv

The TV I’m using is a Samsung Q85b

We have had the same problem since upgrading to 4K PVR. We own a new Samsung 2022 65 S95B (November 2022) and have had multiple problems with the new PVR Box since our purchase. A new box is on the way from Bell to try this replacement. Need to re-boot the box 2-3 time daily. Each time the setting will not keep the 4K resolution.

Have had a technician out twice and installed by Bell originally.

Does anyone have a firm solution to this issue? So very frustrating. We have not purchased a 4K HDMI cable yet, we would have assumed that this is the cable compatible supplied by Bell for 4K. Should we be buying a new Cable??

Maybe its time to look at Rogers.

Just wanted to check in with you to see if you've have a chance to test a Premium HDMI cable to see if you notice a difference.
Please keep us posted on how everything is working.

I changed the hdmi which made absolutely no difference

Hello Patricia, I wanted to wait 1 full week since I received and installed the new replacement 4K receiver. The GREAT news is that the NEW 4K receiver has only needed a re-boot once in the 1st week, as opposed to three times a day since November 2022 with the old receiver. The disappointing news is that the Startech 4K/8K premium HDMI cable (replacing the BELL HDMI Cable) made no difference-the TV Resolution Setting to 4K from 1080P must be changed each day manually through the set up setting. Don't really understand why a 4K Receiver meant only for 4K TV cannot default to 4K Resolution?

Not really what we expect from a technology company as large as BELL??

My 4K STB defaults to SD every time I turn it off. I see that there are already a few posts for this issue. I did have a Samsung Q60, which never had an issue. I recently installed a Samsung Q90, and now, the STB defaults to SD every time. Is there a fix for this? Would a better HDMI cable resolve the issue? Thank you

Hi @Sparkyjimbo, thank you for reaching out to the Bell Community.
We wanted to follow up to see if you were able to try the suggestion of using a Premium HDMI cable?
Let us know how everything is going.

Hi Kris,

I have tried a couple of different HDMI cables, but the STB still starts in SD mode. I am going to purchase a good quality 2.1 HDMI cable, and see if that makes a difference. It appears to be something which the Samsung newer models, is sending to the 4K STB, which is telling it to change the resolution.

Did you tried 2.1 greater quality cables ? I'm running 4k 2.0 cables and have same issues has everyone's here has . My new tv is Samsung qn90b .... I'm sick of always having to set back the resolution on the receiver 😞

I have not tried the new HDMI cable yet. The problem appears randomly. I thought only happened overnight, but yesterday, I went out for a couple of hours, came back, and it was in SD mode. I got up this morning, and it was normal, in HD mode. The does not appear to be a pattern. I will try the HDMI 2.1 cable, the next time it has switched to SD mode
